"How good and pleasant it is when God’s people live together in unity!" Psalm 133:1
Trent went back to South Africa for the Cru global technology conference. This is the third time he has attended, and each one has been impactful in ways that push beyond what we are doing in France. Here are four examples:
Imagine transitioning your email, your shared work files, and your back-up system to a whole new system. Simple? Now imagine you are in charge of transitioning over 100 people— young and old from various cultures— to this system. Trent did that in France a few years ago. Then he met Oumar, the director of technology for Cru in Francophone Africa. Oumar is about to transition hundreds of missionaries to our global communication system. It’s a lot of work to help every individual and train them well, but it’s worth it! Trent was able to translate and coach Oumar at the conference.
Secondly, many Cru staff are from countries where raising the necessary funds involves a scooter, a backpack full of cash, and the dirt road between the donor and bank. Sometimes things go wrong. Could we build a system that allows a supporter to give to any missionary in the world with a few taps on their phone? France has a new donation website that has been running smoothly for about a year. It is being replicated in several languages. What a burden this could take off of our missionaries where infrastructure is not so stable! Please pray for this global effort that will allow missionaries to focus less on paperwork and more on people who need Jesus!
Thirdly, security is a big challenge we face daily. We serve missionaries in places where Christians are persecuted. You may notice that some faces are blurred out in the group photo. That said, we are deliberately vague in saying that Trent is working on two security projects with colleagues around the world.
Fourthly, speaking of fun with time zones, Trent spent a few nights at the office working with fellow geeks on the other side of the globe. The new financial system had some hiccups, and sorting it out meant someone needed to stay up late. Tatai from New Zealand worked with Trent from nine till midnight, our time. Then Trent would get to the office at 7AM to catch Tatai as he finished up. Trent and Tatai did fix those very strange glitches. Whenever we find the root of an issue, the fix helps all our staff and volunteers around the world!
All of these projects came together when our technology leaders met in South Africa. What a thrilling time to praise the Lord for what he is doing and set direction for the years to come. Most of the year, these people collaborate at a distance, mostly through email. What a pleasure it was just to sit on a couch, laugh, eat, and pray together. One colleague had played a big role in Trent’s life before we joined staff with Cru. This man, Marc, was an inspiration of how God can use our gifts to propel the Gospel forward. Praise God with us for these servant-hearted men and women! May their efforts bear lasting fruit.
Thank you for your prayers and support!
Love, Trent, Tara, Lydia, Rachel and Tessa
