“...but the Lord was not in the earthquake; and after the earthquake a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire; and after the fire a still small voice...” 1 Kings 19:12
Before we returned to France, we had the privilege of participating in the Cru Winter Conference for college students in the Midwest. Over a thousand students attended for four days. Here are a few quick stories:
Jose, who came to Christ his freshman year in Cru, attends school in Madison, WI. He grew up in Ecuador. Now he is studying business and French, and he went to Paris last summer with Cru. He is currently considering working full-time with Cru’s marketing team.
Erik lives in La Crosse, WI and was studying pre-med but has put his classwork on hold. He will be interning with a local church as he seeks next steps from God. Since coming to Christ at Winter Conference in 2016, he has sensed the Lord may be leading him into youth ministry.
We went to the conference to recruit for France. About 40 students came to our breakout session. Many of them seemed passionate about reaching the French. Some of them knew nothing about missions or about the French, but God had them there for a reason.
Tara met a student named Ansley. She’s from Wisconsin, and her parents support some missionaries. She’s never considered that God might ask her to “go” until now. She’s counting the cost, as scripture says. Like many students, she’s concerned about job opportunities, family and friends, finances, and possibly giving up dating for a while. Not to mention all the language and cultural adjustments. Ansley looked at Tara with big eyes as if to say, “how can you be nonchalant about all of this?” Tara remembered these stressful decisions as a young, single woman. Sometimes you just have to jump and trust God. He’s always caught us. It’s nice to have some hindsight!
Trent met many talented people and shared about a new opportunity in Rennes. We are inviting interns to work half-time at the office and half-time on campus. They will also take French classes like we did.
Remembering and sharing our calling was just what we needed before heading back to France. Hearing stories from students and colleagues who have a heart for France gave us bigger perspective. God knows what He’s doing! Please pray that these young people would be responsive to God’s call, here or abroad. Lord, tune their ears to hear your still, small voice. Let their feet respond as you say, “this is the way, walk in it.”
Thank you for your prayers and support!
Love, Trent, Tara, Lydia, Rachel and Tessa
